29th March – 4th April was World Autism Awareness Week. The week aims to help more people understand autism and raise the issues that autistic people face to help break down barriers and end discrimination.
1 in 100 people are on the autism spectrum, and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK alone. Though everyone on the spectrum may have different experiences and needs, World Autism Awareness Week is a chance to speak up for the rights of all autistic people, and highlight the social, economic, health and educational obstacles that many autistic people face.
Our fantastic Izabel McLean has also recorded a podcast to share her story and how she is supporting others. The podcast has been a wonderful way to normalise conversations around autism and broaden our understanding of the topic.
Some of our leadership team at Rapport Guest Services partnered up with West Lea School and Haringey Mencap to produce a podcast show, giving an opportunity for some of their interns to talk about their experiences and raise awareness of autism.
“As we look forward to the next academic year, we are so excited to welcome more students on work placements and to continue supporting career journeys.”
Natasha Whitehurst, Head of HR, Rapport.
