Rapport supports World Autism Awareness Week

29th March – 4th April was World Autism Awareness Week. The week aims to help more people understand autism and raise the issues that autistic people face to help break down barriers and end discrimination.

1 in 100 people are on the autism spectrum, and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK alone. Though everyone on the spectrum may have different experiences and needs, World Autism Awareness Week is a chance to speak up for the rights of all autistic people, and highlight the social, economic, health and educational obstacles that many autistic people face.

Many of our Ambassador chose to take part in the “Super 7” challenge to raise money for the National Autistic Society challenge. Ambassador could choose any activity to support the cause, whether was running, a workout, gaming or singing.

Our fantastic Izabel McLean‍ has also recorded a podcast to share her story and how she is supporting others. The podcast has been a wonderful way to normalise conversations around autism and broaden our understanding of the topic.

Some of our leadership team at Rapport Guest Services partnered up with West Lea School and Haringey Mencap to produce a podcast show, giving an opportunity for some of their interns to talk about their experiences and raise awareness of autism.

“As we look forward to the next academic year, we are so excited to welcome more students on work placements and to continue supporting career journeys.”

Natasha Whitehurst, Head of HR, Rapport.

We hope you enjoy listening and that it encourages you to learn more about autism so that we can promote more acceptance, raise more awareness and improve understanding for autistic people everywhere. Rapport is proud to partner with West Lea, providing opportunities for internships. If organisations would like to know more about how they can provide supported internships for young people with special education needs, please get in touch by contacting welcome@rapport.com You can also visit the National Autistic Society website to learn more about supporting people with autism: autism.org.uk
