Plogging with Purpose – Running Towards a Cleaner, Greener World

This July, the Rapport ‘Be The Change’ sustainability committee organised a series of plogging events across four different countries, aiming to make shared green spaces cleaner and healthier for the whole community.

The term ‘plogging’ is coined from English phrase ‘jogging’ and ‘plocka upp’, a Swedish term that means ‘picking up’. This eco-friendly exercise trend, which originated in Sweden in 2016, has since gained popularity worldwide. It merges fitness with environmental action, making a positive impact while keeping communities active.

Be The Change proudly introduced plogging to Rapport in 2022, and each year the initiative becomes more and more popular within the Rapport community. This year’s events set new records, with the highest number yet of Rapport ambassadors coming together from around the UK and Europe to clean up their local environments. For the first time, plogging took place in Edinburgh, Milton Keynes, Watford, and Copenhagen.

Record-Breaking Participation Across Four Countries

In July, a total of 82 ambassadors, guests, and clients participated in nine plogging events held in eight different locations across four countries: Milton Keynes, Watford, Leeds, Edinburgh, London, Zurich, Copenhagen, and Dublin.

Going the Extra Mile: Ambassador Stories

Many Rapport ambassadors went to great lengths to organise and attend these events. One team member travelled from Victoria to Greenwich Park after her shift to participate. In Watford, a team member made a day out of it by bringing her daughter along. Several individual contracts within Rapport also saw fantastic participation from their teams.

A Ripple of Positivity

Throughout these events, the Rapport ploggers received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, not only from their fellow colleagues but also from onlookers. Many park-goers expressed their gratitude for the teams’ efforts, including the Park Warden at Greenwich Park, creating a ripple effect of positivity. Seeing the ambassadors in action inspired others to take small steps in keeping their surroundings clean — a testament to how individual actions can spark broader community change.

After the plogging sessions, participants enjoyed a social get-together. These gatherings provided an opportunity to connect with colleagues and clients from across the business, strengthening the sense of community while sharing in the mission of making a difference. With overwhelmingly positive feedback, many Rapport team members pledged to join again next year, when Rapport Plogging will no doubt be even bigger and more widespread.

Plastic-Free July: Plogging as Part of a Larger Initiative

In line with the Plastic-Free July initiative, these plogging events are part of a wider series of activities aimed at reducing single-use plastics and promoting sustainable living. According to Jarkko Uusi-Rauva, Co-Chair of Be The Change, the events exemplify how saving the planet can be both impactful and enjoyable:

“We’ve masterminded a series of events for Plastic Free July that not only give our ambassadors the tools to ditch plastic, but also prove that saving the planet can be as fun as it is impactful—because who says making a difference can’t come with a side of laughter and healthy living? Having a record number of attendees in the plogging events that we organised in 9 locations in 8 cities and 4 countries is just the proof of the success of the series and I would like to thank everyone who contributed their time and effort to make this happen.”
